May 27, 2025, Chittenango, NY – The Village of Chittenango is excited to announce the beginning of the NY Forward planning process and to invite the public to the first workshop on June 10. Chittenango was selected as one of two communities in Central New York to win $4.5 million to support projects that will strengthen and improve the downtown area. Potential projects will be identified through a public process over the next several months.
Public input is essential to ensure Chittenango’s NY Forward reflects the needs and desires of the community for the future of downtown. To kick off the community engagement process, the Village invites everyone to the first public workshop on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at the Sullivan Free Library, 101 Falls Boulevard in Chittenango, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM. The meeting will begin with a brief presentation introducing the NY Forward program and the Village’s successful application. Following the presentation, meeting attendees will participate in interactive activities to gather input on issues, opportunities, and priorities for the NY Forward and complete visioning exercises for the future of Chittenango’s downtown.
The Village’s NY Forward planning process will be guided by a Local Planning Committee (LPC) comprised of 16 local stakeholders. The LPC will meet at key project milestones throughout the planning process to support the development of a Strategic Investment Plan (SIP) and ultimately to recommend a slate of projects for NY Forward funding consideration. The NY Forward program builds on the success of the Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) and is specifically designed for smaller and more rural communities.
